Celebrating B Corp Month at Rock
As part of B Corp Month Managing Director, Cam Lee talks about Rock's experience as a B Corp for 4 years running.
A global moment to celebrate better business
March is B Corp Month, and across the global business community, it’s a time to recognise and celebrate organisations committed to balancing profit with purpose.
At its core, being a B Corp means meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Certified by B Lab, a global non-profit, it’s helping reshape how organisations consider the impact of their decisions, not just on shareholders, but on their people, clients, communities and the environment.
In a world where success is often measured purely by financial performance, B Corp offers something more balanced and hopeful. It shows that commercial success and positive impact can go hand in hand.
Our B Corp story
Rock became a certified B Corp in February 2022, and since then, the journey has become one of the most meaningful chapters in our evolution as an agency.
From the outset, our motivation was simple. We wanted to build a business that delivered outstanding work while operating in line with our values and our hopes for what the future of business could look like. We wanted to be proud not only of what we created, but of how we showed up as a team, how we made decisions, and the impact we were having in our community.
More recently, we completed our recertification, achieving a B Impact Score of 96.4. It’s a result we are incredibly proud of, and one that reflects a genuine collective effort across the entire team. More than a number, it’s tangible proof of progress and a signal that we are continuing to evolve and strengthen as a business.
Working with businesses that share our values
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a B Corp has been the opportunity to work alongside like-minded organisations.
Over time, we’ve increasingly collaborated with businesses that are equally committed to being thoughtful and intentional about their impact. Some of these are fellow B Corps, including Simplygreen Salary Packaging, Corban & Blair, Future Leadership, Pablo & Rusty’s, Kiandra and Taboo. Others are on their own journey towards more responsible, values-led practices.
What unites us is a shared belief that business can be a force for good. We care not just about what we produce, but how we produce it – how we communicate, how we operate, and how we contribute to the broader community.
Working in this way is energising. It creates a different kind of partnership that’s more open, more collaborative, and ultimately more effective. The work is stronger because it’s built on shared purpose, not just shared profit.
How B Corp shapes our day-to-day
While these broader connections are important, the most meaningful impact of being a B Corp is felt in the day-to-day.
Agency life is fast-paced, with competing priorities and constant demands. In that environment, values can easily become something you revisit occasionally, rather than something that actively shapes how you work. B Corp changes that. It provides a structure that keeps those values present and actionable every day.
That shows up most clearly in how we support our team. We take a people-first approach, creating space for growth, individuality and long-term development. Through continuous training, workshops and structured one-on-ones, we aim to support each person as an individual, with their own goals, strengths and path forward.
Beyond our team, we take a conscious approach to consumption, embracing opportunities to support other purpose-led businesses and partnering with fellow B Corps like Who Gives A Crap and Zero. We make simple, considered choices such as using reusable items instead of defaulting to single-use alternatives.
None of these actions are extraordinary on their own. But together, they create a way of working that is thoughtful, consistent and aligned with our values.
Looking to the future
Our B Corp journey has been rewarding, at times challenging, and far richer than we anticipated.
It has encouraged us to think more deliberately about how we operate and to hold ourselves to a higher standard, not just in what we achieve, but in how we achieve it.
As we look ahead, we’re also conscious that the landscape around us is evolving quickly. In our space, the rise of AI and emerging technologies is reshaping how we work, create and deliver value. With that comes both opportunity and responsibility.
Our focus is on staying informed, being thoughtful in how we adopt new technologies, and continuing to apply the same core principles that guide the rest of our business.
It’s also incredibly valuable to be part of the broader B Corp community in this context – learning from others, sharing ideas, and contributing to a collective effort to shape a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
In this moment of celebration, we look to the future with gratitude, optimism and a strong sense of purpose – not just hoping for a better future, but doing our best to help shape it.
